Each year, a little bit of history graces the waters and docks of Lake Arrowhead. This year will be no different with the 2014 Annual Antique and Classic Wooden Boat Show coming to town June 7-8.
Hundreds of people will flock to this beautiful resort paradise to see a display of some of the finest wooden boats ever made. The much anticipated and featured boat at this year’s show is the “Empress.” She’s a 1938 GarWood 22 foot model 915 Streamliner, and is just one of nine of this model ever made. The show is sponsored and put on by the Rim of the World Historical Society, the Antique & Classic Boat Society (ACBS), the Arrowhead Lake Association, the Lake Arrowhead Village, the Up The Hill Woodie Club, Street Rods Forever, and the Trompers.
Wooden boats were introduced in the 1920s and grew in popularity until they began being replaced by aluminum and fiberglass structures in the mid-20th Century; however, the desire to preserve the wooden boat history and the hobby of wooden boating remains alive. The ACBS brings fellow boat owners and enthusiasts together and sponsors many events to keep the history of these beautiful vessels vibrant.
Lake Arrowhead is a remarkable venue to play host to these historic beauties. With its pristine waters, serene mountains, sprawling forestry, and a deep-rooted history of its own, it provides a true ambience parallel to the antiquity of the boats. This will be the 31st year that the Lake Arrowhead area has welcomed the Antique and Wooden Boat Show to the area.
